Well, progress has been patchy. I’ve realised I’m going to have to reduce my evening based plans during the week to keep up my morning regime without dying of sleepy.
Nevertheless, managed almost-5am-starts yesterday and today. I’ve been working on the opening of the book, where we meet a key protagonist named Audrey. She’s a young, generally quite rule-abiding scientist engaged in important genetics research for her city. She is also an idealistic criminal working on an idiosyncratic plan involving a clone, a genetic modification pod, and a wormhole.
It’s been interesting writing Audrey — as opposed to planning her — because she’s turning out to be kind of a smart-arse in ways I hadn’t anticipated, which will be fun to play with… and to try and avoid getting carried away with!
